So, want to know the secrets to digital marketing? Sure… Here they are:

  1. Create an ad
  2. Post the ad
  3. Make bank

It’s that easy, well, at least this is how most gurus and self-professed experts will lead you to believe.

In all essence, digital marketing is not difficult at all once you can get your head around the concepts of what makes certain adverts work while others fail.

Continue reading and this is what you will discover!

  1. Why marketing campaigns fail
  2. Tapping into the emotional buyer
  3. Think like a sociopath
  4. Understanding winners and losers
  5. DO NOT GIVE UP!

What makes Digital marketing confusing are mainly the advertisement interfaces, where to click, and how much to budget, then there are endless terms such as Analytics, Insights, Channels, Acquisitions, Lead, AB Testing, etc.

Not to mention the annoying acronyms marketers like to kick around, SEO, CPP, CPM, CTA, CEMS, KD, KP KF, WTF!? These terms are usually hugely over-used and mostly overrated.

Then there is the intimidation and fear that you will fail!

Forget all that for now. This write-up will clear all your concerns, questions and doubts about marketing your business.

What makes Digital Marketing difficult is trying to grasp the concept, the psychology and the means to hook people to buy your product.

The reason behind this difficulty is the overwhelming access to global markets, the widespread social media, and lastly, the number of marketing resources out there, which can be very intimidating and confusing to understand.

This write-up is going to simplify the concept in layman’s terms so you can understand the nitty-gritty without the overcomplicated terminology.

No matter how many clients I have assisted over the years, they all have something in common – They need to step away from the intimidating jargon and the cookie-cutter approach to marketing and get back to basics.

Getting started as to understanding how marketing has changed

Years ago, when the Internet became cool, marketing was easy. We just called it spamming.

Things were great until the hipsters and know-it-alls came along and ruined the fun for everyone. They ruined it by over-complicating things with their smart-mouth jargon, fancy graphs and flashy laptops while sipping on their almond milk-matcha tea.

Today, we are more confused than ever when it comes to marketing.

Why? Because of options, options, options and more options.

How has the client changed over the years?

Not much has changed in terms of their desires, needs and wants, they are pretty much the same, but slightly hungrier, and more mistrusting. This is why you need to resonate with their needs, concerns or means to improve their lives.

I could argue that it’s probably easier to market now than it was 20 years ago, purely because people want instant gratification.

So? Sell it to them!

Marketing is purely psychological

It can be incredibly daunting to market products or a company, not because we are not sure how to market, but mainly because of the fear of failure or lack of understanding we have towards our client.

This fear of failure not only compromises our integrity and knocks our confidence, but it has a tangible impact on our budgets.

Often this fear and not understanding our client usually lies within our emotional attachment to our advertisement, products or how we sell ourselves.

And here is where we often fail.

However, what if we were to step away from the marketing monster and approach it from a different angle?

Let’s propose that the advert you are about to launch has only one emotional aspect, and that is one of your clients.

Your focus is purely on how your advert, brand or website will alter the mood of the client. Remember, it’s not about you!

When supporting clients and customers, the emotional attachment they have to their websites, product branding, packaging or even the adverts, it frighteningly unhealthy.

Most times, this emotional attachment comes in the form of not being willing to budge on change which compromises the most critical needs of the buyer.

So, in all fairness, the reason you probably suck at digital marketing is not entirely your fault, you’re probably just scared, intimidated or way too attached.

So is there actually a secret?

Sort of, but it’s more like basic principles which also depend on your mindset and how rigid you insist on being.

Here are the key principles you need to consider which will be covered in this write-up:

  1. Understand that people buy on emotion, never logic
  2. Learn to think like a sociopath
  3. Turn losers into winners and keep winners as winners
  4. Learn to be emotionally disconnected from your brand
  5. Don’t give up, I mean it!
