Compressor starter

A faulty starter will either prevent the compressor from running, or it may start, however, the starter may not engage the RUN winding.

In most cases, the cause of not having the compressor run correctly can be narrowed down to a faulty starter, PTC or capacitor. These should be checked individually.

Although the starter can be tested with a multimeter, it is however far easier to replace the starter with another starter when doing the diagnosis.

Possible Solution

Depending on the type of starter unit, you can replace the starter, PTC and capacitor with equivalents. It’s recommended as a technician to carry a few starters and PTCs in your field kit.
