Always turn off the main power and the water supply during a service.

Before trying to diagnose a fault on an ice machine, it is highly recommended to first clean out and service the unit in order to ensure that all the mechanisms, sensors and components are clean.

This will eliminate unnecessary trial and error attempts to find faults.

Turn off the main power and water supply

Ensure that the power is safely isolated to prevent accidental turning on of the power.

Empty the ice-bin

It is ideal to remove all ice from the bin as this may become contaminated while servicing. Remember, ice is considered a food product and consumable, proper hygiene must apply.

If the ice bin is too full, cover the ice with plastic to prevent any contamination.

Cleaning the condenser

The condenser side of the ice machine should be cleared of all dirt and dust. Having a dirty condenser unit can cause inaccurate operation as well as incorrect functioning of an ice machine.

To clean the condenser, always ensure that you insert a cloth in the fan blade to prevent it from turning if you are using a blower.

The fan blade spinning can cause stress on the bearings if the blower is too powerful because the fan may spin faster than the standard specifications. In addition to this, a fast spinning fan can also damage the windings by generating power, and over-speed can cause high currents to generate and burn out the motor.

After cleaning the condenser, there is not much else to service on the machine condenser unit side other than doing basic checks of all wires, and connections and if the components are secure.

Remember to remove the cloth from the fan blades after cleaning, or this will burn out the fan motor when you apply power to the ice machine.
